Westgate Te Waiarohia Bus Station

The newly opened Westgate Te Waiarohia Bus Station marks an important step forward for public transport in northwest Auckland—and we’re proud to have contributed several key elements to its exterior. Located on Gunton Drive, the new station brings local bus routes together with the WX1 express service to Auckland’s city centre, providing a sheltered, well-lit and secure transport hub for one of the city’s fastest-growing areas.

Symonite’s scope included the supply and installation of 3mm solid aluminium Alucolux panels, powder coated in Vintage Copper, along with the station’s shopfront glazing and automated sliding entrance doors.

One of the most distinctive parts of our work was the illuminated waharoa—a series of custom Māori artwork panels that create a striking entrance to the station. The panels were laser cut before LED lighting was incorporated behind the artwork, allowing the design to come to life after dark. Together, the warm copper-toned cladding, glazing and illuminated artwork help give the station a strong identity while creating a welcoming arrival point for passengers.
